Privacy Policy — Voice Journal

This policy describes how JRDevDesign (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Voice Journal mobile app on iOS and Android. Voice Journal is a private voice diary with on-device transcription. The app is designed to work without an account and without cloud storage for your journal content.

2. Summary

Your journal stays on your device. Voice recordings, transcripts, notes, tags, and favorites are stored locally in a SQLite database on your phone or tablet. We do not operate servers that receive your journal content.

• No account required
• No ads or in-app analytics
• No cloud sync of journal entries
• Export and backup under your control (JSON)

3. Data stored on your device

The app stores the following locally, for as long as you keep it installed or until you delete entries or uninstall the app:

• Audio recordings attached to journal entries
• Transcripts and optional notes
• Tags, favorites, and entry metadata (dates, titles)
• App preferences (for example language or consent flags)

We do not receive copies of this content simply because you use the app.

4. Speech recognition and microphone

To record and transcribe your voice, the app requests access to the microphone and, where supported by the operating system, speech recognition. When on-device recognition is available, processing can happen offline on your device. The operating system may process audio according to Apple or Google policies for speech features you enable.

You can revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. Without microphone access, core recording features will not work.

5. Optional feedback and diagnostic email

If you choose Send feedback or Send diagnostic report in Settings, the app opens your email client with a pre-filled message to johannes@jrdevdesign.com. Nothing is sent until you send the email yourself.

A diagnostic report may include:

• App version and build information
• Device model and OS version
• Aggregated local statistics (for example entry counts)
• Technical recording diagnostics (metadata only, not audio or transcript text)

It does not include your journal text or audio unless you add that yourself in the email body.

6. App updates (Expo Updates)

The app may check for application updates through Expo Updates to deliver bug fixes and improvements. That process checks for new app bundles only and does not transmit your journal content.

7. App Store review prompt

After sustained local use, the app may show the system review dialog provided by Apple or Google. Whether you rate the app is entirely optional. We do not receive rating data directly.

8. Export, backup, and deletion

You can export your data as JSON from the app. Exports are created on your device and shared only if you choose to save or send them. You can delete individual entries or uninstall the app to remove local data from your device.

9. Children's privacy

Voice Journal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has contacted us with personal data, please email us and we will delete it.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. The current version is always available at this URL.
